Whether you just want to lie out under a beautiful night sky and ponder your place in the Universe, count shooting stars with the kids, or engage in some serious astronomy then this is the place for you. Located in a gently rolling rural setting, clear dark skies with excellent seeing right down to the horizon await astronomers of all ages and interest levels. Due to careful use of night lighting at the gites and in the towns around, the skies are dark and unpolluted. In the Summer months the Milky Way is a spectacular band of white soaring overhead, clearly visible from horizon to horizon. Naked eye observing is a pleasure to be indulged, binocular observing is guaranteed to produce many “wow!” moments even from not easily impressed experienced stargazers. For those who never travel without a telescope or two, deep sky observing from the gites is a deeply satisfying experience. For astro-photographers there are some aircraft over flights during the late evening but by midnight until sunrise the sky is yours!

“The night sky in Tout y Faut is really something very special. The seeing is excellent. The skies are very dark with minimal intrusion from stray light. Indeed ashore I’ve only seen skies this unaffected by light pollution on the extreme West coast of Ireland – fortunately the weather is consistently and significantly better in Tout y Faut! There is a panoramic view all around that is hard to beat. The Gites are surrounded by a low wall that provides an effective wind break from the gentle night breezes, and the air moisture content is very low during the Summer leading to a very pleasant observing experience. I just wish I’d brought a bigger scope!”
